Maria Rita

Maria Rita Barbanera is a flower designer specialising in large events.

Around the province of Terni she is known for the originality of her arrangements and the care she puts into every job, whether it is a bunch bought in a hurry at seven in the evening or the flowers for an entire villa. The shop is the same one as always, on Via Capitonese in Narni Scalo: you come in, you look at what has arrived fresh, and you decide together.

For events there is no catalogue. Bring photos of the venue, the date and an idea of the colours: from there we build the proposal and the quote.

Outdoor ceremonies

Aisles edged with roses, columns at the entrance, the arch you stand under to say yes. We come and see the place first, because a sloping lawn and a terrace above the sea do not call for the same flowers.

Church and altar

Flowers for the altar, the pews and the entrance, scaled to the church: the proportions of a parish church and those of a basilica are two different jobs. Green and white when the stonework is already ornate.

Tables and reception

Low centrepieces so people can talk face to face, long tables with a ribbon of flowers running end to end, candles, hanging installations overhead. We choose the palette and stick to it right to the end.

Corporate dinners

Gala dinners, openings, launches, end-of-year parties. Low centrepieces that do not get in the way of conversation, greenery for large rooms, colours chosen together with yours: we set up in the afternoon and clear away the same evening.

We try it first, with real flowers. Round, cascading, unstructured; tied tight or left loose. Plus the buttonholes for the groom and the witnesses, made the same morning.

Ceremonies of every faith and culture

Catholic and civil weddings, but also Orthodox, Jewish, Indian and Muslim rites, and secular ceremonies for couples who have travelled a long way to marry in Umbria. Flowers, colours and symbols mean different things from one tradition to another: tell us about your rite and how it unfolds, and the flowers are built around it, with nothing taken for granted.

And then there is everything else, which is the daily bread.

Cut flowers that change with the season and orchids of every kind — the reason many people make the trip here. House plants and plants to give as gifts, arrangements for the home, bunches to take to dinner. For a bereavement we prepare cushions, wreaths and farewell arrangements, even at short notice: one phone call and we take care of it.

The shop

Half plants, half flowers.

On one side the plants: indoor greenery, orchids of every kind, flowering plants to give as gifts, baskets and arrangements for the home. On the other the cut flowers of the day, which change with the season. If you are looking for something specific, call in the morning: we can almost always have it here by the afternoon.

The shop also has a favours department for christenings, communions, confirmations and weddings: sugared almonds, boxes, figurines, cake toppers and paper hot-air balloons, all out on the tables and shelves so you can touch them and choose calmly instead of leafing through a catalogue. Favours are ordered in advance — come and see, and we will tell you the lead time.
